Risk markers carried in the record

No park-it or park-outside warning is flagged in this vehicle's collected record. This does not establish that the vehicle is defect-free or that every notice is included.

The markers above summarize fields available in this dataset. A missing marker is not a safety finding. Recall status and remedy eligibility can depend on vehicle identification number, equipment, production date, and whether a repair has already been completed.

Recall distribution by component

6 component categories

Counts and shares use the vehicle-level recall records shown below. The horizontal bar is scaled to the largest category on this page.
ComponentCampaignsShareRelative volume
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING225.0%
SERVICE BRAKES, AIR225.0%
STEERING112.5%
EQUIPMENT112.5%
EXTERIOR LIGHTING112.5%

Component labels follow the source record's component field. Where the source includes a more detailed subcomponent after a colon, this distribution groups the record under the first component segment. Shares are calculated against 8 campaigns and rounded to one decimal place, so displayed percentages may not sum to exactly 100 percent.

Summary
Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2002-2017 Freightliner Cascadia, Century Class, Columbia and Coronado trucks and Western Star 4700, 4900, 5700, 5900 and 6900 trucks. These vehicles are equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers that may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf

Consequence
In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

Remedy
DTNA will notify owners, and instruct them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on April 11, 2018. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712, or contact Kidde customer service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information. Summary
DTNA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011-2012 WESTERN STAR 4900 VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM APRIL 1, 2010, THROUGH MAY 13, 2011, WITH STANDARD CAB HEIGHT AND A DD13 ENGINE. THE SUPPLY AND DELIVERY AIRLINES FOR THE FOOT VALVE MAY CONTACT THE AIR INTAKE ON THE ENGINE. RELATIVE MOTION BETWEEN THE CAB AND THE ENGINE MAY ALLOW THE DELIVERY AIRLINES TO CHAFE ON THE AIR INTAKE.

Consequence
A HOLE IN THE DELIVERY AIR LINE MAY DEVELOP, EVENTUALLY LEADING TO REDUCED BRAKING CAPACITY TO THE FRONT OR REAR BRAKES, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE AIR LINES AND REROUTE IF NECESSARY TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL CLEARANCE TO THE ENGINE AIR INTAKE. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 21, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DTNA AT 1-800-547-0712.

Data source and interpretation

NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation, retrieved 2026-11-01. Recall records reflect manufacturer reports submitted to NHTSA. Absence of a recall here does not mean a vehicle is defect-free.

This page reports 8 campaign records, groups them into 6 component categories, and places the notice dates into these calendar years: 2011: 2; 2012: 1; 2013: 1; 2017: 2; 2018: 2. These are derived views of the supplied records, not additional findings from NHTSA.

The collection includes model-year records with one or more recalls. It is not a complete vehicle history, VIN eligibility result, repair-status check, safety rating, or guarantee that the source has no later updates.
